While Japan’s attention has shifted to big name shounen live-action adaptions (Gintama, Fullmetal Alchemist, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure are just a few of the series getting movies in the near future), the shoujo train is still chugging right along and next up is the first love series Hirunaka no Ryuusei (Daytime Shooting Star). Winter 2017:Strings, Marriage, and Gods

I just couldn’t keep up with 2016, before I knew it, it was already January (and now it’s February, c’mon time, slow down a bit). It’s definitely hard to get back into the blogging routine, but seeing as how the winter j-dramas are looking pretty good, maybe I’ll have better luck this year. DeathNoteTanteinoTanteiOmotesandoGasshobu

There is a startling amount of dramas streaming this season, about six or seven, I think, which is a lot more than usual and even more being subbed, so I’m happy about that, even if I haven’t gotten around to watching everything yet. Now that I have some downtime and the drama season is in full swing, I guess it’s about time to check in on what’s airing.

Dr. Rintaro: Episodes 1-2

DrRintaro13

So recently, k-dramaland had a trend of mental illness dramas, none of which really resonated with me, so I was hesitant to try out Dr. Rintaro, a drama about a psychiatrist and his relationship with a geisha who may-or-may-not-but-probably-does-I-don’t-really-know have a mental illness. Plus, medical dramas aren’t really my thing; I’m pretty sure the only medical drama I’ve ever finished was Code Blue and that was when I was in my extreme Yamapi-fangirl phase, so yeah, definitely not my favorite genre. Dr. Rintaro is definitely sappy, but the mystery, romance, and yes, even the medical (though it’s sometimes questionable) is solidly intriguing.

So let’s set the stage, shall we?
